1. What is the Creating Happiness Student Film Competition?
The Creating Happiness Student Film Competition is the first of its kind competition that will see students of film-making shoot a three-minute film telling human interest stories of individuals, families and communities.
2. When is the competition?
The competition will be held during the last 2 weeks of December 2011 and would pan all way up to second week of January 2012. There are three shooting schedules spanning three days each. Teams will get seven days to edit their films upon return from shooting.
3. Who is eligible to participate?
Entry to the competition is by invitation only. Film schools and media schools in India, both at the undergraduate level and the post-graduate level, are eligible to participate.
4. How many teams can a college send for the competition?
Each college can send a maximum of two teams, comprising of three members each which will be shortlisted by their Director/Dean/Coordinator.
5. Can teachers be part of the teams?
No, teachers are not allowed to become team members.
6. What are the locations where the films can be shot?
The films will be shot in Tuticorin (Tamil Nadu), Jharsuguda and Lanjigarh (Orissa), Korba (Chhattisgarh), Goa, Chitradurga (Karnataka), and in Udaipur (Rajasthan).
7. What support will Vedanta Group provide in the film-making process?
Vedanta will ensure all logistical support for the teams, including travel from the college to the location of shooting, local travel, boarding and lodging. A local Vedanta team will accompany the students during the film-making process.
8. What is the schedule for filming?
There are three shooting schedules and three submission deadlines.
Shooting schedule 1: December 14 to 16
Shooting schedule 2: December 17 to 19
Shooting schedule 3: December 20 to 22
Each of the teams will get seven days from the day they return to their colleges after the shoot to submit their films.
9. Where do the films need to be sent?
A DVD of the film should reach the Vedanta Corporate Office (3rd floor, Core 6, Scope Complex, CGO, Lodhi Road) in New Delhi, according to the shoot & edit schedule. A soft copy of the film in .flv format (for uploading on YouTube) will have to be mailed to the following id: corporate.communications@vedanta.co.in
10. What is the method of judging the films?
There are two categories of judging the films, Popular Choice and Jury Award.
11. How will the Popular Choice category winners be decided?
The edited films will be put up on YouTube and shared through Vedantas Facebook page. Every view of the film on YouTube will be counted as one vote. Every like will be counted as three votes. The film with the maximum number of votes will win the first prize of Rs 50,000. The first runner-up will take home Rs 25,000 and the second runner-up will win Rs 15,000.
12. How will the Jury Award category winners be decided?
The Jury Award will be given at the sole discretion of the jury who will see all the films made. The Jury Award carries a first prize of Rs 75,000. The second prize is Rs 50,000, while the third prize carries Rs 25,000.
13. Who is on the Jury?
The jury consists of leading names from the Indian film and Advertising Industry and is headed by well-known advertising personality, Mr. Piyush Pandey, Head O&M
14. Can we change our projects once they are allotted to us by you?
Once the project has been allotted to a team, they cannot change its project under any circumstances. This includes trading it with another team.
15. Who would be the owner of the movie on the completion of the project?
The Movie will be a property of Vedanta once the project and competition is completed. The participating college and student will be duly acknowledged and credited in the movie.
16. Will the students win any recognition if Vedanta wins an award at an International Film Festival?
The college and the students will be duly credited by Vedanta.
17. Can we upload the movie on our own?
No student or even the institute is allowed to share and upload the movie before Vedanta uploads it on the official YouTube Channel and opens it for public voting.
1. What are the projects on which the films can be shot?
The films will be centred around the impact on the people through programmes that include livelihood, healthcare and sanitation, and education. For details of the projects at each location, please refer to the Projects link on the website.
2. How will it be decided who shoots what project?
The location at which every team will go and shoot will be decided by their proximity to their place. The projects that each team will shoot will be decided by a draw of lots.
3. Do the students have to carry their own film-making equipment?
Yes, students will have to carry their own filming equipment. Post-production work on the films will also have to be done by the students. Vedanta will not bear the cost for any equipment/software needed for shooting or editing.
4. Can we use stock Footage?
No use of stock footage is permitted. Any use found will lead to disqualification of the team.
5. What is the Format in which the movie needs to be submitted?
The movie should be sent in 16:9 wide screen aspect ratio. They should also be mailed to us in .flv format and couriered on a DVD in a .mov format.
6. Are credits included in Movie footage time of 3 min?
Credits in the movie are given additional 30 seconds and are exclusive of the 3 min movie footage time. There should be no opening credits and the closing credits should not extend into the movie footage.
7. Can I use music/content/pictures/videos/graphics/interactive feature from different sources in the making of my movie?
One is permitted to use material from other copyrighted sources to the extent they are expressly authorized or assigned or licensed to use. Any other use of any copyrighted material as discussed above will be the sole responsibility of the participant(s) and the participant(s) will indemnify Vedanta and all of its personnel and agents from and against any and all claims, damages, obligations, losses, liabilities, costs or debt, and expenses arising from his/her violation of copyright, property, or privacy right; or any claim or damage caused to a third party
8. How many and what kind of Cameras can we use for shooting?
The team is allowed to use any semi professional camera or above as long as they can deliver a good quality motion picture. They can use as many Cameras as they need.
9. Do we need to use Subtitles?
The movies are meant for International Audience and hence need to be in English. Therefore Kindly use subtitles wherever necessary. The assisting team with you can help you with the translations wherever required.
10. Can Special effects and Animation be used?
Yes Special Effects and Animation can be used until and unless the team is not violating any copyright laws. If they are using any copyright material in the movie they should refer to question number 7
